What is Steampunk?
Steampunk is a genre that stemmed from literature. The world that H.G. Wells and Jules Verne create in their novels, of Victorian era Britan or Wild West America, speckled with futuristic machines and innovations as Victorians would've envisioned them is the basis for the movement. That, mixed with a little goth and some more modern twists is what has led to the current Steampunk design trends.
How can I use Steampunk in my crafts?
The style, when conveyed to scrapbooking and crafting, leads to distressed, Victorian ornate decoration, but with a dark color palette. Imagery in Steampunk includes clocks, gears, keys, ornate gadgets or machines that include those things, polished brass, iron, leather, goggles, hot air balloons, and corsets, among other things.
I think one of the best crafters/srcrapbookers out there today who captures the Steampunk style is Tim Holtz. The image to the right is from his website.
